Meet Our Physician

Dr. Emily Haynes Cooper

Dr. Emily Haynes Cooper was born and raised in Chesapeake, VA.  She earned a BS.Ed. in Health Education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1995.

She also earned an MS in Biology from Old Dominion University in 2001.  She graduated from VCU School of Medicine in 2006 with a combined Doctor of Medicine and MHA in Health Administration.  She completed her residency training at the Carolinas Healthcare Family Medicine Residency program in Charlotte, NC where she served as Chief Resident.  She also completed an administrative residency with the Chief Medical Officer at Sentara Healthcare in Norfolk, VA in 2005.

After residency, Dr. Cooper moved back to the Tidewater area to be near her family and practiced outpatient medicine in the Riverside Health System in Newport News and Sentara Healthcare in Chesapeake, VA. She never lost her desire to work with underserved populations and was recruited back to Carolinas Healthcare, now Atrium Health, to launch a new model of care in rural Anson County, North Carolina.

After successfully getting this new model of care established, she was then recruited back to Atrium Health Biddle Point to serve as Medical Director.  This multidisciplinary clinic is home to 8 board certified physicians, 9 residents in training and many ancillary services.  It is also the site of the first Food Pharmacy established to helped impact the social determinants of health of underserved patients in the Atrium Health System community.  She enjoyed the opportunity to participate in training both medical students and future Family Medicine physicians.

In 2024, she answered a deeper personal call to provide primary care to her community in Charlotte by opening Dominion Health Family Wellness Center. She believes that the health of the community is contingent on the health of all members of the family.  Also, while health disparities are still in the forefront of the current healthcare landscape, she is dedicated to serving those patients who otherwise have fewer options for ongoing primary care.  Her clinical interests include adolescent health, women’s health, office procedures and geriatrics.

She has many outside interests and lives in a Charlotte suburb with her husband, Brian, daughter, Dillon, her mother and their rambunctious American Bully. She is a proud 30+ year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and active at her church in Concord, NC.
