FAQs
What is primary care and Family Medicine?
Primary care and Family Medicine includes medical care for acute or chronic illnesses and diseases. Dr. Cooper treats patients of all ages, from babies to older adults using the most advanced, up-to-date diagnostic tests and treatments to optimize you and your family’s quality of life. Regular visits can also help detect medical problems before complications arise. Having your family cared for by a family physician is convenient and allows your doctor to truly get to know you as a patient and as a part of your family unit.
What is primary care used for and what family medicine services are available?
Primary care and family medicine services are synonymous. You can be seen for wellness exams, sick visits, health and preventative screening at Dominion Health Family Wellness Center.
Some of the conditions, symptoms and illnesses treated at DHFC include:
- Flu, strep throat, sinus infections, or ear infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Hormone imbalance
- Asthma and allergies
- High blood pressure or high cholesterol
- Diabetes or prediabetes
- Depression and anxiety
- Arthritis, osteoporosis, or fractures
- Heart disease or cancer
- Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
Your physician can detect these and other conditions before serious medical problems arise and help reduce unpleasant symptoms if you’re sick.
Wellness exams
During a wellness exam, your physician completes a comprehensive physical exam. The goal is to focus on prevention of illness and determine the appropriate health screenings for your age range and risk category. The doctor will examine your eyes, nose, ears, throat, heart sounds, breathing, reflexes, abdomen, and limbs. They may also complete vision or hearing tests, pelvic exams and Pap tests in women, and prostate screening in men to detect or rule out cancer and other medical issues.
Sick visits
If you or your child gets sick, the team at DHFWC can detect, diagnose, and treat the illness to reduce unpleasant symptoms.
Health screenings
Acute and chronic disease screenings available include testing for strep throat, ear infections, urinary tract infections, flu, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), diabetes, asthma, allergies, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cancer, hormone imbalance, and much more.
